Nature of Responsibilities
The Program Coordinator plans, develops, implements, and evaluates co-curricular programming designed to promote understanding and organizing on issues of gender and social justice for graduate and undergraduate women. In conjunction with other Women’s Center staff, this position markets Women’s Center services to students through various media outlets and oversees student recruitment, training, and other group advising activities, including budget management. This position serves as resource on gender issues across the campus and as a liaison with campus and community partners to promote women’s leadership and development. The Program Coordinator reports to the Director.Specific Duties
• Develop and implement short- and long-term mentoring initiatives for undergraduate and graduate women, including weekend retreats for first year students, group and/or one-on-one mentoring opportunities, and seminar style events that promote community, develop skills and competencies, and encourage leadership development; devise long-term evaluation strategies to measure impact of the program on annual cohorts.• Plan, implement and evaluate educational, co-curricular activities and issue-based program initiatives, such as presentations, conferences, house courses, discussion forums, workshops, seminars, faculty/staff/alumni or other campus collaborations, guest lectures or other community-based activities, that cultivate consciousness, activism and leadership in the university community on gender or identity-related, social justice issues
• Actively recruit and sustain informal and formal student participation in the Women’s Center by designing and implementing a variety of outreach, training and support efforts for students, such as planning participation in undergraduate, graduate and professional new student orientations, implementing annual student staff training, and advising student groups that support the mission of the WC; Hire and supervise undergraduate and graduate/professional student staff, volunteers or interns.
• Assist with the general promotion of feminist dialogue and the Women’s Center through media and technology, by producing publications, newsletters, op-eds or proactive print pieces, updating the website and campus calendars, maintaining the listservs, developing press releases, posters, brochures, and other publicity materials, and arranging media coverage of major events.
• Evaluates and assesses programmatic effectiveness through regular qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis, such as focus groups with students, faculty and staff, pre- and post-surveys, benchmark tracking, or other performance and outcome data; maintain program statistics, including key demographic information on participants, and produce annual programming reports; identify program areas that are below expected performance and devise solutions with Director and other staff.
• Serve as a resource for the campus community on gender-related issues; serve on committees, boards and task forces as requested to improve the status of women on campus or other campus climate issues; develop and maintain relationships with campus, community and national agencies that support the mission of the Women’s Center; regularly identify and seek collaborative partners to further the work of the Women’s Center.
• As needed, offer short-term support, assistance and referral to students in crisis who may present with various concerns including sexual harassment, eating disorders, gender-based violence, or reproductive health;
• Participate in the design and implementation of short and long-term strategic planning and annual budgeting for the Women’s Center; develop annual work plan, outlining program goals and objectives along with timelines for completion for the upcoming fiscal year; manage student group and program budgets by monitoring monthly expenditures, suggesting modifications for variances, and ensuring the timely submission of check requests, reimbursements, and procurement card receipts;
Minimum Requirements
Minimum educational requirement: Master’s degree in relevant field. Strongly prefer 2-3 years experience as a programmer in a higher education setting.Specific Skills and Competencies
Position requires thorough understanding of gender issues in a college community and the ability to work with a diverse group of faculty, staff, students, alumni and community members to address them. Expertise in education and service provision from a feminist, anti-oppressive framework is essential. Strong interpersonal, communication and writing skills are needed.
