The mission of Duke University's Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) is to provide excellent quality of care to undergraduate and graduate students. We are committed to demonstrating empathy and trust with students, one another, campus and community partners, and other stakeholders. As social justice motivates our work, all students will experience acceptance and compassion, and affirmation for their lived identities and life experiences.

Services We Provide

Looking to start services with CAPS? 

  1. You can either call 919-660-1000 or visit us in person on Monday - Friday, 9:00am - 4:00pm. There is no appointment needed to get started with CAPS.
  2. You will then complete some paperwork and meet with a member of our staff for approximately 15 - 20 minutes to discuss your specific goals.
  3. A collaborative plan will be developed based on your needs. This may include referrals to a psychiatrist, a community mental health provider, group counseling, or one of our counselors.

Mon. - 8:00am - 5:00pm
Tues. - 8:00am - 5:00pm
Wed. - 8:00am - 5:00pm
Thurs. - 8:00am - 5:00pm
Fri.  - 8:00am - 5:00pm

We are located on the 3rd floor of the Student Wellness Center on West Campus next to Penn Pavilion.

Parking: The closest parking garage is located at the Bryan Center at your own expense.

Urgent Concerns

If you have an urgent concern about yourself or another student after-hours call:

  • CAPS: 919-660-1000, option 2 for confidential mental health crisis assistance 
  • 24/7 Tele-mental Health services are also available to all Duke students through Timely Care
  • Students studying at international locations may find information about support here.
  • Student Affairs/Dean on-call: 984-287-0300
